Web Extensions
PlannedWill require macOS 15.4 or later
Ovra will run standard Web Extensions — the format used by Chrome, Firefox and Safari extensions — through Apple’s WKWebExtension support in WebKit. If you’ve built a browser extension before, you’ll be able to bring it to Ovra with little or no change.
What’s planned
- Loading extensions that use a
manifest.json(Manifest V3). - The common
browser.*/chrome.*APIs that WebKit supports: tabs, storage, content scripts, background service workers, declarative content blocking, action buttons and popups. - An Extensions section in Settings to install, enable, disable and remove extensions, with a permission prompt on install.
- Installing from a file or from the Ovra gallery.
Requirements
Apple’s Web Extension support in WebKit needs macOS 15.4. When extensions ship, Ovra’s minimum macOS version moves to 15.4.
What to do today
You can start with a standard Manifest V3 extension and test it in Safari. The supported API surface in Ovra will be listed on this page — follow the roadmap.
