Privacy Policy
Last updated: 16 October 2026
This policy explains what information Ovra Browser (“Ovra”, “we”, “us”) handles and why. Ovra is made by Kilian Balaguer. If you have questions, email contact@kilianbalaguer.me.
The short version
- We don’t collect your personal data. Ovra has no accounts, no analytics, no tracking and no ads.
- What you do in Ovra — your history, bookmarks, favorites and settings — is stored on your Mac, not on our servers.
- Ovra only connects to other services to do what you ask: load websites, search, show suggestions and check for updates. Those are listed below.
Information stored on your Mac
Ovra keeps the following on your Mac so it can work:
- Browsing history and search history, to suggest pages as you type. They’re deleted automatically after the period you choose in Settings (one day, one week, one month, or until you delete them).
- Bookmarks and favorites.
- Settings, including your search engine, appearance, theme and custom themes.
- Your profile name, which you enter during setup. It’s only used to greet you.
- Site permissions, such as which sites may use your location or send notifications.
- Website data, like cookies, caches and local storage, which websites save through Apple’s WebKit.
We can’t see any of this. You can clear history in Settings, clear a site’s cookies from the shield in the address bar, and erase everything with Settings › General › Reset Ovra.
When you export a backup or a theme, Ovra writes a file that you choose where to save. It contains your settings, themes, favorites and/or bookmarks, depending on what you select. Anyone you give the file to can read it.
Services Ovra connects to
| When | Service | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| You visit a website | That website | Your request, your IP address and anything the site collects. Each website has its own privacy policy. |
| You search from the address bar | Your chosen search engine (Google, Bing, Yahoo or DuckDuckGo) | Your search and your IP address. |
| You type in the address bar | Google search suggestions (suggestqueries.google.com) | The text you type, to show suggestions — currently Google, whichever search engine you choose. |
| Ovra shows a site’s icon | The website | A request for its icon. |
| Ovra checks for updates (once a day, or when you ask) | GitHub (ovrabrowser.github.io, github.com) | A request for the update list and, if you update, the download. GitHub receives your IP address. |
Tracker blocking runs on your Mac using a blocklist included in the app. Ovra doesn’t send the sites you visit to us or to DuckDuckGo to decide what to block.
Permissions
Ovra only asks for macOS permissions a website needs, such as your location or notifications, and only when a site requests them. You decide per site, and you can change your choice in Settings.
This documentation website
This site doesn’t use cookies, analytics or trackers. Like any website, the company hosting it may keep standard server logs (such as IP addresses and the pages requested) for security and reliability.
Children
Ovra doesn’t knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If Ovra starts collecting information — for example when Ovra accounts and sync are introduced — we’ll update this policy before that happens and change the date at the top.
