Ovra plugins
Planned
Web Extensions change web pages. Ovra plugins extend the app itself — the parts no other browser has.
What plugins will be able to add
| Extension point | Example |
|---|---|
| Sidebar panels | A notes panel, a reading list, a to-do list next to your tabs. |
| Toolbar buttons | A button that runs an action on the current page. |
| Commands | Actions with keyboard shortcuts, available from the menu bar. |
| Start page widgets | Weather, calendar, or anything else on the new-tab page. |
Principles
- Written in JavaScript, so anyone who builds for the web can build for Ovra.
- Declared permissions. A plugin states what it needs (current URL, tabs, network, storage) in its manifest, and the user approves it on install.
- Sandboxed. Plugins run isolated from web pages and from each other, and can’t read browsing data they weren’t granted.
- Native look. Plugins describe their UI; Ovra renders it in its own style, so every panel feels like part of the app.
The manifest and the full API will be documented in the API reference before they ship.
